MIST Organized the Inaugural Responsible AI Summit in Bangladesh

For the first time in Bangladesh, the Responsible AI Summit 2026 was successfully held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka, under the supervision of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). The summit marked a significant step toward promoting ethical and responsible artificial intelligence practices in the country.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Ms. Sharmeen Soneya Murshid, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, as the Chief Guest. The Chief Patron of the summit was Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Honorable Commandant of MIST. The session was presided over by Brig Gen Mohammad Shahjahan Majib, ndu, psc, Head of the Department of CSE, MIST.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Upol Ehsan, Assistant Professor at Northeastern University and Berkman Klein Fellow at Harvard University. In his keynote speech titled “Made Here, Not Imported: Responsible AI in Bangladesh,” he emphasized the importance of developing locally relevant and context-aware AI solutions, which deeply inspired the audience.

The summit featured two panel discussions. The first panel, “How might academia help build Responsible AI by and for Bangladesh,” focused on the role of academic institutions in promoting ethical AI. The second panel, “Responsible AI focusing on Industry and Policy Formulation,” highlighted the need for effective policies, transparency, accountability, and responsible AI adoption in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.

The summit also included student poster presentations and project exhibitions, with participation from students of 12 universities, including MIST, DU, BUET, BRAC University, BUP, and IUT. Outstanding teams from both categories were awarded for their innovative and socially impactful AI projects.
